HowIMadeIt! Priyanshu Painyuli: I was supposed to play Kubbra Sait’s role in ‘Sacred Games’! | Hindi Movie News
“It can now be told. The project was ‘Sacred Games‘. I was supposed to do the role of Cuckoo, which was played by Kubbra Sait”. How did that happen? “It all happened after I had prepared for the role for a month and even given a look test, which had gone fairly well. I had worn eyelashes and 5-inch heels for it! Vikramaditya Motwane had told me that they hadn’t decided if they’ll go in for a guy or girl, but I did all that the role required, including losing weight. I had also met Anurag Kashyap for it. The dancing benchmark was Parveen Babi’s famous jig in the ‘Jawaani Jaaneman’ song from ‘Namak Halal’. But I must admit that Kubbra brought more into the character; her dancing was more graceful, her body language was better,” Priyanshu told ETimes.
The actor, who began his journey from the web series ‘Band Baaja Baaraat’, slowly came onboard ‘Bhavesh Joshi‘ followed by ‘Mirzapur 2’. But he rates the former film as the one that changed his position in the industry for the better.
Priyanshu does not mind the umpteen rejections he faced during the many auditions he gave in his early days. “I learned from every audition, worked on myself, and polished my acting skills further. Those rejections only motivated me further,” he states.
The Robin of ‘Mirzapur 2’ prefers not to go down the stereotype path carved some lead actors, characterised by certain signature moves. Like his ‘Bhavesh Joshi’ co-actor Harsh Varrdhan Kapoor, he, too, believes that playing just the character is rather more important.
The actor’s marriage to TV actress Vandana Joshi in 2013 has not changed his life much. “Vandana and I had been travelling a lot together since we first met on the sets of Vaibhavi Merchant’s musical show ‘Taj Express’. We were together for a large part of the time. So it’s not that we are feeling different now,” he said.
